Nottingham Forest statement in full as owner's coronavirus diagnosis leads to Premier League postponement

Nottingham Forest have issued a statement after owner Evangelos Marinakis announced he had tested positive for coronavirus on social media.

The Greek businessman, also owner of Europa League side Olympiacos, was in attendance for Friday’s clash with Millwall and reportedly met members of the squad prior to that match.

That has sparked concerns about a potential outbreak at the club but Forest have moved quickly to downplay the situation, stating no players are currently suffering from symptoms.

However, it Marinakis' diagnosis has led to the postponement of Wednesday night's Premier League clash between Manchester City and Arsenal, as several members of the Gunners' squad and staff are now self-isolating after Mikel Arteta's side faced Olmpiacos in the Europa League last month.

In a statement released before the Premier League's decision to postpone that match, Forest said in a statement that: “Nottingham Forest can confirm that owner Evangelos Marinakis has tested positive for the coronavirus.

“Mr Marinakis was diagnosed after showing the first symptoms on his return to Greece yesterday afternoon. During his short stay in Nottingham last week he did not show any symptoms of the virus.

“The club are seeking advice from medical professionals and the relevant governing bodies to ensure the correct measures are taken. Until this time the club will be making no further comment.”

On Tuesday, it was announced that the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the Uk had risen to 374, with the sixth death also being announced.
