Nottingham Forest star reveals 'phenomenal' role models

Dean Henderson has named two goalkeepers who inspired him when he was starting out in his football career.

Henderson is enjoying life at Nottingham Forest following his summer loan move from Manchester United. Despite Forest's difficult start to the season, the 25-year-old has managed to save penalties from both Harry Kane and Declan Rice.

His displays under Steve Cooper have earned him international plaudits, after he was named in Gareth Southgate's 28-man England squad for the Nations League matches against Italy and Germany. So far, his decision to move away from Old Trafford in search of first-team minutes appears justified.

Speaking on Sky Sports following his international call-up, Henderson revealed that Man United legend Peter Schmeichel and former Manchester City stopper Joe Hart were both role models for him.

"I think [Peter] Schmeichel overall with the starfish and everything like that, it was phenomenal," he said.

"When I actually became a goalkeeper, I think Joe Hart was. He went out on loan and built his way up.

"Seeing him in Manchester City’s team, he was one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League and he was unbelievable for England."
