International ambitions

Nottingham Forest defender Matty Cash has spoken about his international ambitions, having discovered he is eligible to represent Poland.

The 22-year-old has been one of the standout stars for the Reds this season, in a new right-back role.

Slough-born Cash qualifies to play for the country through his grandmother, and says he would love to get a call-up.

Bellingham dig

Manchester United target Jude Bellingham has had a light-hearted dig at Nottingham Forest star Matty Cash.

Forest’s flavour of the month Cash, who continues to be linked with interest from clubs including AC Milan, Everton and West Ham, has been named in EA Sports’ FIFA 20 Ultimate Team, Team of the Season so far.

The 16-year-old has had a breakthrough season with Birmingham, playing 32 times in the Championship and making himself one of the most-wanted prospects in football, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer one of his key admirers.

However, with the coronavirus suspension now set to last until at least June, there are fears that the season will not be completed.

The EFL and Premier League remain committed to fulfilling fixtures but a precedent of cancelling promotions in a major league has now been set.

Government stance revealed

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has hinted that Nottingham Forest could return to action this summer.

The football season is currently suspended in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

That has left Liverpool, Leeds United, Coventry City and Crewe Alexandra, the leaders of the top four divisions in England, waiting for news on when they can continue their promotion challenges.

Meanwhile, Forest are hoping to resume their own promotion push, with Sabri Lamouchi's men sitting fifth in the Championship table - in a play-off spot - with nine matches remaining.
