Nottingham Forest star makes interesting Derby admission to aid Premier League promotion push

Joe Worrall would be happy for Nottingham Forest to sign players from rivals Derby County – as long as it aided their promotion push.

A product of the Nigel Doughty Academy and a Red through and through, Worrall unsurprisingly holds a dislike for those players at the other end of Brian Clough Way.

But such is Worrall’s desire to lead Forest to the Premier League, he would happily welcome any Rams into the squad if they helped the side climb into those play-off positions.

Sabri Lamouchi’s men had established themselves as genuine promotion contenders, but slipped off the pace with one win in seven.

But Boxing Day’s 2-0 win away to Hull City saw them move back to within two points of the play-off positions, with the January transfer window just around the corner.

Would Worrall like Forest to add?

“As long as players work hard, as long as any new signings buy into what we are trying to achieve and what we have built already, I am happy,” he told The Athletic.

“We could sign a player from Derby and I would not care, as long as they helped Forest climb the table and get into the Premier League.

“We do not want to hurt the dynamic we have here. You want them to be the right kind of people. But that is down to the manager and the owner (Evangelos Marinakis), because the money will be coming out of his pocket.

“What he is doing at this football club — at my football club — is brilliant. We have the stadium redevelopment coming on the horizon and we are being linked with some big, big players. It is awesome. If new signings can help us out, then I am all for it.

“It does feel as though we have a good squad and a good set of individuals.”
