Nottingham Forest star leaves Twitter - and fans are surprised

Nottingham Forest playmaker Joe Lolley appears to have left Twitter.

Lolley, a vocal presence on the social media website who regularly interacted with Forest fans, became known for his witticisms and brutal put-downs to his team-mates.

A search for Lolley's handle, @JLolley23, returns a '@JLolley23 does not exist' message while searches for his previous Tweets also return a similar web-page.

Lolley had become vocal about the coronavirus pandemic and last month sent out a message to people who were flouting the government's lockdown rules implemented to combat the spread of Covid-19.

The winger is enjoying a productive season on the pitch, with seven goals and the same number of assists for Sabri Lamouchi 's promotion chasers as they eye a place in the play-offs.

Lolley was linked with a move to his boyhood team Aston Villa last summer after their win in the play-offs and subsequent promotion to the Premier League.

We asked fans what they thought about the mysterious disappearance and here's what they said...

One said: "I am surprised he lasted this long. Way too many keyboard warriors on Twitter to have an opinion."

"Maybe he's having a social media break," another pondered.

Another Reds fan said: "Think he'd started to alienate a section of fans with his political views. He's probably sensible enough to realise twitter can be awful to some."

"I quite liked his opinions, even if I disagreed with some of them. People always say that footballers don't live in the real world. I hope he's not been forced to stop tweeting," said another.

"One of the positives of this lockdown has been reading his tweets," one Reds fan said.

Another added: "Must say, I liked Joe's tweets and was often impressed by his humanity and staunch political views. Twitter is a minefield so unfortunately there is allot of negativity on here. Sorry he has closed his account but fully respect that."

"His tweets have always been highly intelligent and often amusing. Top bloke," said a Forest fan.
