Nottingham Forest star Harry Toffolo charged with 375 alleged breaches of FA betting rules

Harry Toffolo of Nottingham Forest has been charged by the Football Association for breaching their betting rules.

It is alleged that he breached FA Rule E1(b) 375 times between 2014 and 2017.

"Nottingham Forest's Harry Toffolo has been charged with misconduct in relation to our betting rules," a statement from an FA spokesperson, shared on social media, read. It specifies that the alleged offences took place before he was signed by the Premier League club.

"It's alleged that the defender breached FA Rule E1 (b) 375 times between 22 January 2014 and 18 March 2017," the statement continues. "Harry Toffolo has until Wednesday 19 July 2023 to provide his response."

Toffolo was on the books of Norwich City when the alleged offences are said to have taken place. The left-back began his professional career with the Canaries, and spent time out on loan at a number of clubs during the time-span in question.

The left-back joined Forest in the summer of 2022 after their promotion to the Premier League, having previously spent time with Huddersfield, Lincoln and Milwall. He played 19 times in the league for Steve Cooper's side last term.

Toffolo's ban comes just months after another Premier League player, Ivan Toney, was banned for eight months after being charged with betting breaches of his own. Toney's ban relates to rule E8, according to literature at the time.

"The Brentford FC forward was charged with 262 breaches of FA Rule E8 in total between 25 February 2017 and 23 January 2021," an FA statement about Toney read. "The FA subsequently withdrew 30 of these breaches and he admitted to the remaining 232.

Nottingham Forest finished 16th in the Premier League last season, four points above the bottom three. They secured their victory with a 1-0 victory over Arsenal in May, a game for which Toffolo was an unused substitute.

Their pre-season programme ahead of the 2023-24 season begins with a friendly against neighbours Notts County on July 15. They will also take on Valencia and Levante during a tour of Spain, with further matches against PSV Eindhoven, Rennes and Eintracht Frankfurt.

Forest's Premier League campaign gets underway against Arsenal on August 12, in a lunchtime kick-off. Cooper's team, who have already begun making summer additions to their squad, will then face newly promoted Sheffield United in their home opener.
