Nottingham Forest star explains why fans can still play important role in promotion push

Striker Lewis Grabban says Nottingham Forest fans can still give the team an “extra boost” even though they will be supporting from home.

The Reds will play their first game at an empty City Ground this weekend, when Huddersfield Town are the visitors on Sunday.

It is the first of back-to-back outings on the banks of the Trent for Sabri Lamouchi’s men - with five home matches left in total before the end of the season.

All games will take place behind closed doors for the remainder of the campaign, however, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Forest returned to action on Saturday with a 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday, as the Championship got back underway following a three-month suspension.

To help the stadium still feel like home when the players run out against the Terriers, the club will show video messages from fans on the big screens - and on social media - before kick-off.

Supporters have also been able to purchase life-sized cardboard cutouts of themselves, which have been placed in the stands, and they have been able to drop off flags to be displayed inside the ground.

Grabban says it can all help as the team prepare to mount a final push for promotion.

"The fans won’t be here with us in the stadium, but as a squad we know we can count on their support from home,” he told the club.

“Seeing the social media messages and the flags and cut-outs in the stand will give us that extra boost."
