Nottingham Forest sign former Leeds United midfielder and young striker

Nottingham Forest have signed two players to join their academy set-up.

Striker Lewis Salmon has earned a move from National League side Altrincham, while midfielder Billy Fewster joins after leaving Leeds.

Salmon, 19, featured in Altrincham's squad twice last season as they finished 17th. He has first team experience after scoring three times in 11 games on loan at Stalybridge Celtic last season.

He also scored 13 times in 35 appearances for Northern Premier League North West side Trafford in the 2019/20 season.

Salmon, who has signed a two-year deal, told the club website: "I can't wait to get started.

"I've been with Altrincham for 18 months and been on loan a couple of times so I feel I've gained a good amount of experience already. I'm a player that works really hard and enjoys scoring goals, so I'm delighted to be given this opportunity.

"The Academy set up here is really good. Gary Brazil and Andy Reid really sold the club to me and I'm delighted to be here."

Fewster, 17, is a central midfielder who was in Leeds' Under-18 side last season. He played on trial for Forest at the end of last season in their Under-23s and has since been snapped up.

He said: “I’m really pleased to be here and it’s a move that I’m really excited to make. Forest has a great history and reputation for developing young player and I can’t wait to get started.

"As soon as I met the coaches, I knew this was a club where I could develop as a player and push myself on.”

They will hope to impress Reds Under-23s coach Andy Reid next season. Forest have also announced Under-23s players Riley Harbottle, Sam Sanders, Josh Barnes and Jordan Wright have signed fresh terms.

Meanwhile, Forest are close to signing former Charlton goalkeeper Joe Watkins.

The 18-year-old was released by the Addicks at the end of last season, but according to academy manager Steve Avory, he has joined the Reds. He is yet to actually formally join but it is indeed expected.

"There were four scholars that I had to inform that they were not going to be offered a pro contract," Avory told the Charlton website.

"I’m delighted that two of those have got contracts elsewhere - Harry Beadle at Colchester and Joe Watkins at Nottingham Forest. We’ll certainly be trying to help the other two lads as well."

Forest have also been linked with a move for former Rangers keeper Nicky Hogarth, 20.
