Nottingham Forest set to submit pre-contract offer for Hearts defender John Souttar

Hearts defender John Souttar is set to receive a pre-contract offer from Nottingham Forest this week, according to reports.

The Scottish defender has been attracting plenty of attention, with Forest among a number of clubs reported to have been keeping tabs on him, along with Stoke City, Middlesbrough, Rangers and several MLS teams.

Souttar will be a free agent in the summer when his contract expires. Hearts have offered him fresh terms, but are said to be “resigned” to seeing the Scotland international head elsewhere.

According to the Daily Record, the latest chapter in the story has seen Blackburn Rovers offer Souttar a pre-contract agreement with Steve Cooper's side to also offer one soon.

The Scotsman, meanwhile, claim Rangers are monitoring the situation due to the Scottish side being light of cover in central defence.

Souttar has been in good form for his club this season, making 22 appearances and scoring three goals, and also caught the eye when recalled by his country after a three-year absence.

The Reds currently have Scott McKenna, Joe Worrall, Tobias Figueiredo, Loic Mbe Soh and Rodrigo Ely as centre-back options on the books.

Ely has yet to make his debut after signing in the summer, and along with Mbe Soh is currently sidelined with injury.
