Nottingham Forest set to spring transfer deadline day surprise as shock signing 'almost done'

Nottingham Forest are said to be close to springing a deadline day surprise, with the signing of Chelsea’s Michy Batshuayi.

It has been a busy transfer window at the City Ground, and there looks set to be a dramatic finish in the final few hours. The Reds have made 19 new additions so far, but their business is not yet done.

Batshuayi is set to link up with Steve Cooper’s side, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. A deal is said to be “almost done”.

The 28-year-old joined Chelsea from Marseille in 2016. He has made 48 league appearances for the Blues, scoring eight goals.

The Belgium international has had a series of loan spells during his time at Stamford Bridge, going to Borussia Dortmund, Valencia and Crystal Palace. Most recently, he was with Besiktas, scoring 14 goals for the Turkish outfit last season.

Forest have already signed defender Willy Boly on deadline day, and they are expected to also bring in centre-back Loic Bade and winger Josh Bowler, with the latter set to head on loan to Olympiacos. Departures are also expected before the window closes at 11pm.

In his pre-match press conference earlier in the day, boss Cooper said of how he expected the day to pan out: “Things are going on. There can be a little bit of a scramble on deadline day, not just for us, but for any club.

“We are certainly trying to do a few things. Some might come off. None of it might come off. We’ll wait and see. But we’re trying, that’s for sure.

“I can’t put a number on how many. If there is, it’s only going to be a couple, of course.

“A lot has, quite rightly, been said about the amount of signings we’ve made already. It’s been a unique transfer window, for sure. I understand and accept that.

“But we’d still like to do a couple more things - which are not a reaction to the last couple of games, it’s something we’ve been trying to do for a little while now, it’s just they can take a little bit longer than what you would hope. There’s certainly nothing that’s just popped up in the last day or so, it’s something that’s been ongoing for a little while now.”
