Nottingham Forest set to receive £10m bid from Burnley for star man

Nottingham Forest are reportedly set to receive a £10m offer for Joe Worrall as Burnley resume their pursuit of the centre-back.

The homegrown defender has been a target for the Clarets, and the Sun say they are willing to stump up an eight-figure fee to try to take him to Turf Moor this summer.

With three years remaining on Worrall’s contract, a new deal signed last winter, Forest may feel they can charge more than £10m, particularly as there is the prospect of a bidding war.

West Ham, who will play in the Europa League next season, and Championship title-winners Norwich are also said to be keen on the 24-year-old.

Burnley do have other options to turn to though, with Stoke’s Nathan Collins, Middlesbrough’s Dael Fry, and Liverpool’s Nat Phillips on their radar as well.

Sean Dyche could be looking for two centre-backs to replace an outgoing duo, with Ben Gibson to be sold permanently to Norwich and with James Tarkowski of interest to Leicester City and West Ham.

However, there have been suggestions Burnley would rather let Tarkowski’s contract expire and lose him for nothing next season than sell him now, which would reduce their need for a new centre-half.

Worrall has always been non-plussed with the rumours surrounding his future.

He told NottinghamshireLive in April: "It’s the same with any player under the age of 24! It doesn’t matter whether you’ve got two left feet or whatever, you’re always getting linked with whoever – more so in League One.

“If you play in League One, you’re automatically linked with a Premier League club, I think. That’s just the way football is, and it won’t change.

“The media push the stories. Some of them are true, some of them aren’t.

“It’s up to Forest and, at the end of the day, me, if interest does come in, to make decisions.

Forest know what it’s like to have their homegrown talents eyed by Premier League clubs, with Matty Cash joining Aston Villa for around £16m last summer.
