Nottingham Forest set for change to EFL rule that has left fans furious

Nottingham Forest fans look set to be spared the frustration of travelling to a match only to find that it has been postponed at short notice due to Covid-19.

The Reds are yet to see one of their matches called off in the Championship so far this season but plenty of others have gone down, with Preston North End 's scheduled trip tonight to West Bromwich Albion and Coventry City's New Year's Day clash with Luton Town the latest casualties of a decimated festive schedule.

Tonight's clash at the City Ground against Huddersfield Town is still set to go ahead as Steve Cooper's side look to bounce back from Boxing Day defeat at Middlesbrough.

The Sun journalist Alan Nixon reported on Thursday morning via Twitter that the EFL was "to scrap 'on the day' testing before matches".

He added: "This means no late results that can lead to call offs and very frustrated supporters already at or going to games."

Cooper spoke on Tuesday about the "grey situation" Covid-related postponements have had across the division.

“Especially with the cancellations, it’s not a real reflection,” Cooper said.

“I’m not paying much attention to the table at the moment, it’s just about trying to pick up as many points as possible - until you really need to start paying attention to it.

“But it is going to be a grey situation now because there have been so many cancellations. Teams are going to have games in hand, and others are going to have played more games.

“There’s even less focus on it, for me, because of that.

“It’s the Championship - anything can happen.”
