Nottingham Forest's Scott McKenna to miss crucial Scotland clash due to injury

Nottingham Forest defender Scott McKenna will miss Scotland's crucial Euro play-off semi-final tonight after officially withdrawing from the squad.

The centre-back had hoped to be fit to face Israel on a huge night for boss Steve Clarke, but has failed to overcome a knock which ruled him out of the Reds' 2-1 defeat to Bristol City at the weekend.

McKenna is now set to return to the City Ground  where he will undergo treatment and will hope to be fit enough to make the squad to face Blackburn in nine days' time which will be Chris Hughton's first game in charge.

McKenna was one Sabri Lamouchi's big summer signings with the Reds paying a reported £6m to sign the Scottish international from Aberdeen in the summer.

But he made just one appearance for the Frenchman before he was sacked this week which came in the 1-0 defeat at Huddersfield last month.

McKenna's absence from the Scotland squad is a huge blow for Clarke who has also seen Stuart Armstrong, Kieran Tierney and Ryan Christie ruled out after testing positive for Covid.
