Nottingham Forest's Michael Dawson came out on top of this Championship stat against Leeds United

Nottingham Forest's Michael Dawson left the Elland Road pitch on Saturday with the SkyBet Man of the Match award, and plenty of fans were singing his praises.

The 35-year-old faced the tough task of keeping promotion favourites Leeds United at bay during a frantic Championship encounter, and at full-time he was leading the way with one important stat.

Nobody in England's second division was more dominant in their own penalty area that the former Tottenham Hotspur man.

On four occasions the 6ft 2inch defender was called upon to head clear as Marcelo Bielsa's side piled on the pressure, a number only matched by Huddersfield's Christopher Schindler and Luton Town's Matty Pearson.

His defensive partner, Matty Cash also proved his worth in Yorkshire.

The makeshift right-back made eleven interceptions, the third highest number in the division, on what was a hugely positive day for the 22-year-old.

Together, their strong defensive performances helped keep Sabri Lamouchi's side in the game, allowing striker Lewis Grabban to snatch an all important equaliser and a vital point on the road.
