Nottingham Forest's Liam Bridcutt 'wouldn't be affordable' says Peterborough United chairman

Peterborough United will not be signing Liam Bridcutt from Nottingham Forest, according to chairman Darragh MacAnthony.

Media reports on Sunday suggested the out of favour midfielder was set for a loan move to London Road after failing to force his way into Martin O’Neill’s squad in the latter stages of last season as he goes in search of regular football.

Post chief MacAnthony though, refuted those suggestions, admitting any move for the Forest man would be too costly given the sizeable salary the 30-year-old former Leeds United midfielder would likely command.

The Posh chairman took to Twitter during one of his regular question and answer sessions with supporters, saying Bridcutt “wouldn’t be affordable” to his League One outfit.

Despite making 28 appearances in his first season on Trentside, Bridcutt was limited to just four last season, with three of those coming in the Carabao Cup.

His last outing for the first team came in the 3-2 defeat at Burton Albion towards the end of November, though he did feature in the Under-23 side during the closing stages of the campaign.

Ryan Yates, Ben Watson, Adlene Guedioura, Claudio Yacob, Ben Osborn and Matty Cash all appear to be ahead of Bridcutt in O'Neill's thoughts when it comes to central midfielders, while the Ulsterman is keen to see Jack Colback return to the City Ground after a fine season on loan from Newcastle.

Meanwhile, he again moved to rule out a bid for last season’s League Two leading marksman Tyler Walker, with the Reds striker attracting no shortage of interest given his imperious form at Mansfield Town.
