Nottingham Forest's January transfer 'target' backed to score 50 goals this season

Nottingham Forest are set to rekindle their interest in long term transfer target Lawrence Shankland , according to reports.

The Reds were extensively linked with the striker in the summer before he joined Dundee United.

Last season he scored 24 goals in 31 outings for Ayr United and he has hit the ground running once again this season for his new club and has already scored 17 goals - an average of a goal every 68 minutes.

And his teammate Louis Appere has backed him to hit the big 50 this season which will him one of Europe's most prolific strikers.

“Can he get fifty? I don’t see why not because of the rate he’s scoring at,” Tangerines winger Appere told the Herald.

“If he stays in the form he’s in then who knows what he’s capable of. He is a really good goalscorer but it’s unfair to just think of him like that, he’s got really good hold up play as well.

“He brings people into the game and is intelligent, but when you score as many as he does it’s no wonder people just focus on the goals.”

Forest will need to overcome interest from Old Firm rivals Celtic and Rangers if they are to land their man though. The Daily Record has reported that both have been scouting the former Ayr United forward.
