Nottingham Forest’s January transfer priority as three Premier League ‘targets’ emerge

Nottingham Forest will look to use the January transfer window to strengthen their attacking options, according to latest reports.

The winter window opens in just a matter of weeks as clubs look to tweak their squads in order to make a push in the second half of the campaign.

It will give Forest manager Steve Cooper a chance to put his twist on the Reds’ squad following his arrival at the City Ground in September.

The former Swansea City boss has won seven and lost just one of his 14 Championship matches in charge of Forest since replacing Chris Hughton earlier this season.

As reported by the Telegraph journalist John Percy , Cooper will ‘prioritise the signing of a striker in January’, with a Premier League loan signing the most likely option.

Three possible names have been mentioned, including Aston Villa’s Keinan Davis and Arsenal youngster Folarin Balogun.

Davis has struggled to get into the Villa side since returning from injury, making just one Premier League appearance so far this season.

The striker has opened up on his wish to move in January in order to play more games.

It doesn’t look too good but all the minutes I have got have been totalling up to appearances. For me, whether it’s at Villa or somewhere else, I need to play games,” Davis told the Beautiful Game podcast . “I need a clean run of games to get experience and to get goals.

“Obviously, it depends what the club wants to do but I’d want to play a more consistent run of games. For a player like me, still quite young and finding ways to play...going back down to the Championship, I don’t see that as a backwards step at all.”

Balogun has been a regular in Arsenal’s U23s side so far this season, scoring 13 goals in just 11 appearances.

He has also made two appearances in the Premier League this campaign.

The third name that has been mentioned is Norwich City striker Adam Idah, but it is said that a move for the 20-year-old is ‘unlikely.’
