Nottingham Forest's director of football opens up on his relationship with Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane

Nottingham Forest’s director of football Kyriakos Dourekas says he has a “happy” relationship with Reds manager Martin O’Neill and his assistant Roy Keane.

The Greek was appointed at the City Ground last December, replacing Luke Dowling, who made the move to West Bromwich Albion.

O’Neill arrived the following month, following the departure of Aitor Karanka, as he returned to the club where he enjoyed great success as a player as part of Brian Clough’s European Cup-winning team.

Keane too, is back on familiar territory, having started out an illustrious career in English football with the Reds.

Dourekas says both have “valuable” experience to offer as the club aim to mount a promotion push next season.

Dourekas was asked what his relationship with O’Neill and Keane is like by Greek website Sport 24 at the end of the last campaign.

And he replied: “Happy happiness: Both of them are great personalities who have written a special story in Nottingham Forest’s history.

“Their experience is valuable, and if you talk to them, you could write not just a book but a whole encyclopaedia.

“It is like studying at a university, you are constantly learning. What they have to say may come from the glorious past, but they are also extremely instructive for the future.”
