Nottingham Forest's Danny Preston set to seal loan switch to Grimsby Town

Nottingham Forest defender Danny Preston is set to seal a loan switch to League Two side Grimsby Town.

BBC Humberside's Matt Dean says the Mariners have agreed the terms of the deal which will see him join the League Two side for the whole of next season.

Left-back Preston is highly-rated by Forest who have always shown a willingness for their young players to go out on loan in a bid to aid their development.

Preston spent time on loan at Alfreton last season, but a move to the Mariners will be a significant step up in quality for the 20-year-old.

But he has shown plenty of ability to suggest he is more than capable of making the grade having trained with the first-team under previous manager Aitor Karanka prior to the start of the 2018/19 season.

The news of Preston's loan switch comes as Forest are also set to loan Jordan Gabriel to Blackpool on a similar deal.

The Reds have reaped excellent success from sending out their young prospects out on loan with Jake Taylor the latest to benefit following his switch to Port Vale last season.

He scored seven goals in 25 appearances for the Valiants and is now said to have signed a new deal on the back of an excellent spell at Vale Park.
