Nottingham Forest's Championship rivals closing in on Ivan Toney - report

Nottingham Forest's Championship rivals Brentford appear to be closing in on a deal for in-demand Peterborough forward Ivan Toney according to reports.

Talksport claim the Bees have had a £6.5m offer accepted for the striker which could rise to £10m in add-ons.

Forest, who signed former Charlton striker Lyle Taylor at the weekend,  had been linked with a swoop for Toney in the summer as well as their arch-rivals Derby.

But Brentford appear to have moved quickly and a deal for Toney is likely to signal the exit of Ollie Watkins who has attracted interest from Premier League clubs such as Aston Villa.

Peterborough chairman Darragh McAnthony says nobody should believe any report until it comes from the directly from the club whose prized asset had dominated the headlines over the last month.

Posh admit they will have to sell the striker who had  a wonderful season in League One which saw him regarded as one of the lower league's hottest talents.

He scored a remarkable 26 goals in 39 appearances for Post last term and has been linked with a host of big clubs such as Scottish champions Celtic.

The Parkhead outfit had submitted a bid but it did not match Peterborough's valuation and they have yet to come back with a second offer.
