Nottingham Forest's rivals Derby County in investment talks with American billionaire - report

Nottingham Forest 's bitter East Midland rivals Derby County are in advanced talks with American billionaire and founder of technology company Dell over a major financial injection, according to a report by the Telegraph.

Michael Dell is looking to play a key role in the Championship club's future, according to the report, and is in talks, via a private investment firm in New York, with Rams owner Mel Morris about making the deal happen.

The 55 year-old was listed as being the 25th richest man in the world by Forbes in 2019 and was linked with completing a takeover for League One Sunderland last season.

That takeover never materialised, with 'MSD Capital', Dell's investment company, instead loaning a sum in the region of £12m to the Black Cats.

Derby owner Morris is understood to have been seeking investment at Derby for the best part of two years, during which time the club has seen Frank Lampard come and go as club manager and England legend Wayne Rooney arrive on a player-coach contract.

Dell has been dialogue with the club for the last few months, says the report, with the two parties now nearing a deal.

The Rams are currently nine points behind Forest in the race for promotion to the Premier League as sport takes an unscheduled break to slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) across the UK.

But they do still have an outside shot at snatching a play-off place and have picked up more points so far in 2020 that Leeds United, West Brom and the Reds.
