Nottingham Forest have reportedly reignited their interest in Uruguay international striker Cristhian Stuani.
The former Middlesbrough man was linked with the Reds while Aitor Karanka was in charge, with the pair having worked together at the Riverside Stadium.
And now Mexican outlet Radio Formula are suggesting Stuani is once again wanted by Forest – but there is some tough competition for the Girona forward’s signature.
European giants Barcelona are said to be keen, along with Celtic and Mexican side CF Monterrey.
Karanka was said to be plotting a move for the 32-year-old last summer, when he reportedly had a 14m euros pricetag on his head.
But following Girona’s relegation from La Liga, Radio Formula claim he could be available for half that amount – about £6.1m.
Stuani made the move to the Spanish club from Boro two years ago, having been brought to England by Karanka. Despite a tough season for the team, he still finished as fifth-top scorer in the league with 19 goals - 20 in all competitions, plus three for his country.
The front man started his career at Danubio, in his homeland, and also counts Bella Vista, Reggina, Albacete, Levante, Racing Santander and Espanyol as his former clubs.
He hit 16 goals in 66 appearances for Middlesbrough, including 11 in their promotion-winning campaign.
