Nottingham Forest receive potential transfer boost over linked striker ahead of January

Nottingham Forest may be able to sign one of their reported January targets for nothing when the window re-opens, according to reports.

The Reds have been credited with an interest in Sydney van Hooijdonk , the son of former Forest striker Pierre van Hooijdonk, after his goalscoring exploits in the Dutch second division.

The 20-year-old has netted a total of eight goals in 12 appearances for NAC Breda so far this season, including a hat-trick over Ajax U21s in a 4-0 win back in October.

And according to the Sun , the forward has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave on a free transfer during the January window.

It is claimed that the youngster has refused his club’s moves to extend his contract and is looking to move to England next month.

Forest are one of a number of Championship clubs reported to be keen on the player, with Swansea City and Sheffield Wednesday also linked with a move.

Van Hooijdonk was linked with a departure from Breda in the summer, but instead, put pen-to-paper on a one-year contract extension with the club.

His father, Pierre left the City Ground on bad terms after famously going on strike in order to force a move away from the club in 1998.

He left one year later, completing a transfer back to his homeland by joining Vitesse Arnhem in the summer of 1999.
