Nottingham Forest 'receive offer' from Wigan Athletic for Tendayi Darikwa

Nottingham Forest have received a offer from Wigan Athletic for defender Tendayi Darikwa, according to the Sun.

The Zimbabwe international, who spent this summer away in Egypt with his nation contesting for the Africa Cup of Nations, made 31 appearances for the Reds last season, battling for his spot on the team sheet with West Ham United Sam Byram.

And with no deal close to bring the West Ham United defender back to City Ground ahead of the new campaign, it seemed likely that Darikwa would start the new season as Sabri Lamouchi's first choice option at right-back.

But now he is said to be Paul Cook's number one target at Wigan as he looks to replace Chelsea youngster Reece James, who was crucial last season in keeping the Latics in the Championship during an impressive loan spell.

James was given a standing ovation at the DW Stadium as he left the field for the final time in May.

His 45 league appearances last season helped Wigan steer clear of the drop by 12 points, and Cook has reportedly pinpointed Forest's former Chesterfield man as an ideal replacement for him.

However, the report claims that Cook could turn his attention to former Aston Villa defender and rumoured Reds target Alan Hutton should his attempts to land Darikwa fail.

Forest were fleetingly linked with a move for Hutton under Martin O'Neill as the Northern Irishman looked to strengthen his defensive options but, under Lamouchi, the club's interest in the 34-year-old has waned.
