Nottingham Forest receive Arsenal response after Man City surprise

There were celebrations in north London, as well as Nottingham, as Chris Wood tapped home his late equaliser against Manchester City.

The Premier League title race took a big twist in City’s direction on Wednesday as Pep Guardiola’s side triumphed 3-1 in their top-of-the-table tussle at Arsenal. However, a dramatic Saturday afternoon, which started with the Gunners winning a see-saw clash at Aston Villa in the early kick-off and ended with City being surprisingly held to a draw, saw the advantage swing back towards the Gunners.

While Reds fans greeted the unlikely point like a victory, Gunners were supporters were also toasting Steve Cooper’s side. Their side now leads the way by two points and have a game in hand, prompting many Arsenal supporters to take to social media to thank Forest.

“Forest did what we couldn't. Fantastic from @NFFC,” said one Gunner. Another declared: "Always loved Robin Hood and your neck of the woods. Sincerely, all Arsenal fans.”

A third posted: “2 points lead with a game in hand. Thank you @NFFC.”

Another delighted Gunner wrote: “Appreciate ya, @NFFC - might even forgive y'all for those cup exits now! #AFC.”

A fifth tweeted: “Always liked Nottingham Forest!”

In a nod to how the Gunners came to wearing their red shirts, another fan said: “Nottingham Forest doing Arsenal their biggest favour since giving them the Garibaldi red shirts well over 100 years ago.”

Forest host Arsenal on the penultimate weekend of the Premier League season in May.
