Former Nottingham Forest winger lands new Championship club

Former Nottingham Forest winger Garath McCleary could line up against the Reds on Saturday after signing for Wycombe Wanderers.

McCleary spent four years at the City Ground after being signed by Colin Calderwood in January 2008.

He helped Forest secure promotion back to the Championship that season and went on to make more than 100 appearances for the Reds.

McCleary left for Reading in 2012, spending eight years with the Royals before leaving this summer.

After a spell as a free agent, the 33-year-old has been snapped up by Championship new boys Wycombe.

“Garath has terrific experience playing at this level and I’m delighted to bring him here to give us another option going forward,” said Wycombe boss Gareth Ainsworth.

“He’s very quick and direct and will suit the way we play.

“He’s been without a club since the summer but kept himself fit and sharp so we hope to be able to bring him into a matchday squad very soon and I’m looking forward to seeing him in action.”

Wycombe travel to Birmingham City tonight before Saturday’s trip to the City Ground.
