Nottingham Forest praised for 'selfish' January transfer decision

Nottingham Forest have been praised for their decision to recall Tyler Walker from his loan spell at Lincoln City, by former Red Colin Barrett.

Sabri Lamouchi decided to bring the striker back from the League One side after he hit 14 goals in 28 games for Michael Appleton's Imps.

Walker was due to spend the campaign on loan at Sincil Bank but Lamouchi recalled the forward, adding him to Forest's squad alongside fellow strikers Lewis Grabban and Nuno da Costa.

Grabban is Forest's starting striker, with da Costa and Walker for backup.

The Reds were linked with moves for Dwight Gayle of Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion's Glenn Murray but neither move materialised.

Walker won't be warming the bench following his move back to Forest and has already seen Championship action, brought off the substitute's bench for the 2-1 defeat to Birmingham City last weekend.

“Whether they did miss the boat… it’s alright saying they should have gone for Gayle or the lad at Brighton (Glenn Murray) but I don’t think they were available," Barrett told the nottinghamforest.news website.

“People don’t want to get rid of their strikers and you have got to pay big money if they are going to release them.

“I’m really pleased that they brought Tyler back because they need another body in there.

"It might be selfish from Forest’s point of view but they have done the right thing.

"Tyler has done it at Mansfield in the lower league and then got up a league and done it again at Lincoln.

"I think it’s the right thing to do.”
