Nottingham Forest 'pondering' bid for midfielder as boss discusses defender's future

Another club have been thrown into the mix as a possible January destination for Nottingham Forest target Kamil Grosicki.

The Reds were  close to signing the West Bromwich Albion winger  in the summer window, only for the move to fall through amid a dispute about paperwork being submitted in time.

Boss Chris Hughton has retained an interest in the Poland international, who is out of favour at The Hawthorns.

But Championship rivals Middlesbrough  and Legia Warsaw  have also been linked, with fellow Polish club Pogon Szczecin now reportedly in the running as well.

Defender's future

Nottingham Forest manager Chris Hughton says the door is not closed on Nicholas Ioannou's future with the club.

Ioannou only joined in September, but was loaned out to Greek side Aris for the rest of the season last week, after losing his place to Yuri Ribeiro at left-back.

With Gaetan Bong and Tyler Blackett also in the squad, Hughton felt he needed to let Ioannou go, but he could yet have a future with the Reds.

"Credit to Ioannou. He always trained really well," he said.

Transfer talk

Nottingham Forest are reportedly pondering a bid for Doncaster Rovers midfielder Ben Whiteman.

The 24-year-old is one of the most sought after players in League One with Preston, QPR, Barnsley and Derby County all keen according to The Athletic, who also say Forest are monitoring West Brom's Filip Krovinovic, another midfielder who is currently on loan from Benfica.

It is the talk of a bid for Whiteman which has got Forest fans excited given he is 24 and has eight goals this season as box-to-box midfielder, although he can also play in a deeper role as a play-maker.

Keane on return

Former Forest midfielder Keane returned to the City Ground two years ago, linking up again with O’Neill after the pair had worked together with the Republic of Ireland national team.

He has also been a No.2 at Aston Villa, as well as being manager of Sunderland and Ipswich Town.

But when not in the game, he has enjoyed success as a TV pundit, currently working for Sky Sports.

However, The Sun say former club Manchester United could offer him “a route back into the game” in a coaching role.
