Nottingham Forest poised to sign veteran Premier League striker

Nottingham Forest are poised to sign Brighton striker Glenn Murray on a deal until the end of the season.

Murray began the season on loan at Championship promotion chasers Watford, but returned to parent club Brighton after making just six appearances where he failed to score.

The 37-year-old is set to be reunited with Chris Hughton, his former manager at Brighton, a club Murray scored 103 goals for as he helped them stay in the Premier League.

Murray, who will join on a permanent deal rather than on loan, will provide competition for Lyle Taylor and Lewis Grabban, with his move also making it possible youngster Will Swan will leave on loan, with Ipswich reportedly keen on him.

Speaking about his transfer plans, Hughton admits Forest need to improve on their goal tally, with only 20 scored in 26 league games.

He said: "Your thoughts can change. It is a very emotional game, and us as managers are very much involved in that.

“One performance where you don’t do so well, then you’re thinking, ‘well, maybe we need that position or that position’, then that changes in the next game or the game after that.

“But we’ve been fairly consistent on our thoughts.

“The area that we need to improve is the ability to score more goals.

“We’ve been fairly consistent in that - but there is always the emotion of good and bad results, and injuries.”

Murray will become the second player Forest sign who began the season with Watford, after bringing in Manchester United's James Garner for the rest of the season yesterday.
