Nottingham Forest play-off rivals receive positive COVID-19 test result fortnight ahead of City Ground trip

One of Nottingham Forest’s Championship rivals have confirmed that one of their players or staff members has tested positive for COVID-19.

Bristol City, who are just two places and five points behind the Reds in the race for the play-offs, announced the news on Tuesday afternoon that the club’s plans for the restart of football have been dented.

The good news is that the individual is ‘asymptomatic’ and currently well.

Forest get back to action at the weekend when they travel to Sheffield Wednesday ahead of back-to-back home games against Huddersfield and Bristol City.

The Robins are due to travel to the City Ground in just over a fortnight on Wednesday, July 1.

As per the EFL guidelines, the person concerned will now isolate away from anyone else for at least seven days before taking another test.

The club confirmed the news via a short statement released across its channels.

“After last Thursday’s league-wide testing for COVID-19 completed by Bristol City players and staff at the club’s training facility, we can confirm that one member of the testing group tested positive for coronavirus.

“The individual, who we are not naming due to medical confidentiality, is asymptomatic and is now self-isolating in line with league and government guidance.

“There has been a subsequent scheduled round of testing for the rest of the group with all results negative.

“The club will be making no further comment at this time.”

Our sister title Bristol Live, who broke the story, is aware of the identity of the person concerned but will not be naming the individual either.

The positive test is believed to have occurred in the previous round of EFL testing. No-one has tested positive since (in the subsequent round of testing) - and it is just one person who has tested positive.

City travel to face Blackburn Rovers at the weekend and the missing person will now not make the trip for the weekend, whether staff member or player.
