Nottingham Forest planning Premier League friendly ahead of restart

Nottingham Forest could face Premier League Wolves in a friendly before the season restarts, it is understood.

The Championship is set to get back underway on June 20, having been suspended since March due to the coronavirus crisis.

Sabri Lamouchi’s squad returned to training last week, initially on a non-contact basis, and now it is believed plans are being put in place for them to get match time under their belt.

It is understood plans are in place for Wolves to stage a friendly against the Reds which would take place at Molineux - and as with forthcoming league games, would be behind closed doors.

According to the Daily Mail, the match could take place next week.

They say: “The date has yet to be set in stone, though it is believed Tuesday, June 9 has been pencilled in for the encounter, with Championship clubs expected to be cleared to arrange friendlies from Saturday onwards.”

Some second tier sides have criticised the schedule outlined by the English Football League, arguing there is not enough time to prepare for a return to competitive action.

For Forest, the restart is a chance to resume their promotion push as they target a place in the top-flight - with the club currently sitting fifth in the table.

The Mail say the friendly is unlikely to be mentioned by either team’s official channels and attendance will be “extremely limited”.

It is said only about 60 players and essential staff each from the two sides would be permitted into the ground and social distancing rules would have to be adhered to.

The report states: “Wolves would also have to demonstrate to the Premier League that they have carried out a thorough risk assessment prior to the game.”
