Nottingham Forest pipped to midfielder signing by rivals - report

Swansea City are reportedly set to beat Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City to the signing of midfielder Korey Smith.

The 29-year-old is currently a free agent after parting company with Bristol City.

WalesOnline are reporting that Swansea are expected to make him their first recruit of the summer.

The article adds that Forest and Cardif had both shown an interest in the player.

Smith is said to be undergoing a medical at Swansea's Fairwood training ground ahead of his move.

"It's understood Smith was been hugely impressed with the work done by those at SA1 last term and has been keen on a move to the Liberty Stadium for some time, hence his decision to choose the Swans over other Championship clubs," says the report.

"As for Swansea, they believe his experience in the middle of the park will prove invaluable."

Smith spent six years at Ashton Gate, having previously had spells at Oldham Athletic and Norwich City.

He made nearly 200 appearances for the Robins and has more than 350 senior games to his name in his club career to date.
