Nottingham Forest owner reveals he has coronavirus with Bristol City set to face play-off rivals in 12 days

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has revealed that he has been diagnosed with the coronavirus.

Posting on Instagram in both Greek and English, Marinakis, owner of both Forest and Olympiacos, said that he was feeling good but had been diagnosed with the virus.

The news comes just four days after the 52-year-old attended Forest's defeat to Millwall on Friday night.

He said: "The recent virus has 'visited' me and I felt obliged to let the public know.

"I feel good as I take all the necessary measures and I discipline to the doctors' instructions.

UPDATE: Nottingham Forest issue statement

"I strongly advise all my fellow citizens to do the same.

"I wish all a quick recovery."

It is unknown whether Marikankis had any contact with Forest's players on Friday evening, although journalist Daniel Storey has tweeted that he has been informed the owner did meet the squad.

A number of Forest fans have posted selfies with the club's owner from the game.

The news could well have a significant impact on Bristol City, with the Robins set to make the trip to the City Ground in just 12 days' time on March 22.

Whilst the government have not yet placed any restrictions on attending events, such as football matches, a number of countries overseas have enforced rules that have seen games played behind closed doors.

Premier League side Wolves are set to visit Marinakis' Olympiacos side in the Europa League later this week, but the game in Greece will be played without any fans present.

It has now been reported that this game may be in the balance due to Marinakis' close relations to the Olympacos squad, with the entire team and staff going to hospital to be tested for the virus.

Italy's Serie A has been suspended, due to the country being the worst hit in Europe in terms of the virus.
