Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis' 'reward' for Steve Cooper revealed

Boss Steve Cooper is said to have travelled to Greece to meet with Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis during the international break.

The Welshman has transformed the Reds’ form since his appointment in September, overseeing a positive run of results and a push up the Championship table.

Forest have lost just once under his stewardship, and climbed up to 13th on the back of Saturday’s 3-0 triumph over Preston North End. It is some turnaround compared to when they were rock-bottom of the standings under Chris Hughton.

And, along with chief executive Dane Murphy, Cooper has been “rewarded” for his efforts with a three-day stay in Athens, according to The Sun.

The duo are said to have been invited by Marinakis, and linked up with the Greek on Sunday to watch Olympiacos, who he also owns, beat Ionikos 1-0.

Reds director of football Kyriakos Dourekas is said to have then joined them for a meal. And it is claimed Cooper and Murphy are set for a tour of Olympiacos’ training ground today.

Marinakis’ son, Miltiadis, has been a regular at Forest games of late, praising the fans’ support with messages on social media.

Meanwhile, Cooper spoke about his relationship with Murphy earlier this week, saying: “It’s good. It’s very important we have a good relationship.

“We speak every day. He’s at the training ground often and is a very visible member of staff.

“He’s the boss.”

The Reds have a fortnight off, before they return to action with a trip to Reading on Saturday, November 20.
