Nottingham Forest opponents linked with move for striker bombed out by Joey Barton

Nottingham Forest’s next opponents, Preston North End, are reportedly in talks to sign ostracised Fleetwood Town striker Ched Evans.

The former Sheffield United forward has been a key man for League One Fleetwood this season, but has been told he has no future at the club by manager Joey Barton due to disciplinary reasons.

Speaking to BBC Radio Lancashire after the 1-1 draw with Wigan Athletic on Boxing Day, Barton said: “It would have helped I think if we had had Ched in the group today but he’s no longer with us.

“He will leave the building due to his discipline and his behaviour.

“There’s been multiple infractions. We always try and give a bit of leeway but it just ran its course.

“I think Ched needs a change of scenery, a different voice. I know, short-term, we will feel that because he’s been an influential player for us before but I just think, for us, everybody has a bus stop where they get off. For multiple reasons, I think it’s one of those periods.”

According to Football Insider, Preston are ready to take Evans on loan for the rest of the season.

Alex Neil’s side are on the lookout for a new forward and saw leading scorer Scott Sinclair limp off during the Boxing Day win at Derby County.
