Nottingham Forest old boy tipped for shock La Liga transfer after blistering start to season

Ben Brereton represented Nottingham Forest for two seasons between 2017-2019 before moving to Blackburn Rovers.

He had since had a slow start to life there, taking him 24 Championship games to score his first goal for the club.

This current campaign for Rovers, however, he has made all 11 appearances, registering 10 goals and is in blistering form after receiving his first call-up to the Chile national team in the summer.

It is reported that he has since caught the eye of La Liga side, Sevilla, who are pondering a raid on him due to uncertainty surrounding the future of their striker Youssef En-Nesyri at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan.

The Morocco international was subject to an East London move to join West Ham in the January transfer window this year.

Arsenal, Spurs and Brighton have also kept tabs with En-Nesyri, according to reports.

Brereton, however, finds himself in a position where his current contract at Blackburn runs out next summer.

Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray has hailed Brereton's recent appearances.

"Ben’s contribution last month, and during the start to the season as a whole," Mowbray told Blackburn's club media. "(He) has been a real bonus to the team, especially with the loss of Adam Armstrong and Harvey Elliott, who scored the bulk of the goals for us last season.

“Somebody needed to step up and I think Ben Brereton has done just that."

Forest fans have also commented on his transformation since his City Ground days.

"What an amazing impact playing for Chile has had on his career. Boosted his self belief and he’s flying. Excited to see where he goes next. If he goes Prem I hope he chooses wisely (Leeds/Brentford), else go abroad," a supporter said on Twitter.

"Under the radar he had a more than decent season last season and has now taken it to the next level," another added.

Brereton was on target for Chile in their 2-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Paraguay overnight.
