Nottingham Forest could reportedly turn to Sean Dyche in the event that they sack struggling manager Ange Postecoglou.
Former Tottenham boss Postecoglou has endured a nightmare start to his reign at the City Ground after being appointed as the successor to the dismissed Nuno Espirito Santo - now at West Ham - last month, failing to win any of his first seven matches in charge across all competitions.
Five of those games have ended in defeat, with Forest already conceding 15 goals under their new head coach amid renewed questions over playing style that were a common theme during his time at Spurs.
Postecoglou has already faced chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning” from his own fans during the 3-2 home loss to FC Midtjylland in the Europa League and speculation over a potential early exit has already been growing after just over a month at the helm.
Reports earlier this week stated that Forest were leaning towards keeping the Australian in charge for their next Premier League fixture, which is at home to Chelsea on Saturday, having been weighing up his position during the international break.
It was said that owner Evangelos Marinakis is a big fan of Fulham’s Marco Silva, having seen his methods first-hand during the latter’s 2015/16 stint at Olympiacos, a club also owned by Marinakis.
However, Forest would need to pay a hefty compensation fee to prise the Portuguese away from Craven Cottage, where his current contract is due to expire next summer.
Reports from multiple outlets including The Telegraph now claim that Dyche is emerging as the front-runner to take over at Forest in the event that Postecoglou is sacked.
Dyche - also linked with the vacant managerial post at Rangers following Russell Martin’s exit - has been out of work since being sacked by Everton after less than two years in charge back in January.
He previously spent a decade at Burnley, where he had been the Premier League’s longest-serving manager, achieving two promotions to the top-flight before being sacked in April 2022.
Dyche began his managerial career at Watford in 2011, having spent almost two decades as a defender for Chesterfield, Bristol City, Luton, Millwall, Watford and Northampton.
The 54-year-old is already familiar with Forest, having graduated through the youth ranks and started his senior career at the club under Brian Clough, though he did not make a first-team appearance before leaving in 1990.
Per the BBC, Dyche also currently lives near Nottingham and has Forest legends Ian Woan and Steve Stone as long-time members of his coaching staff.
