Nottingham Forest move on to Leeds United target after missing out for striker wanted by Bristol City

Nottingham Forest are rivalling Leeds United for Watford striker Andre Gray.

It is the latest news in the Championship transfer merry-go-round, which has seen multiple sides, including Bristol City, targeting the same strikers.

First it was Rhian Brewster, with Leeds, Swansea City and Bristol City all keen on the Liverpool front man - the Swans eventually won that race.

Then it was Eddie Nketiah, with the Robins, Forest and Sheffield Wednesday all aiming to take the Arsenal striker out on loan - only for him to stay put at the Emirates after being recalled from Leeds.

The same three sides are also interested in Connor Wickham - but, with interest from France,

Forest were said to be keen on former Robins front man Jonathan Kodjia, but he now looks set to be heading to Qatar, as the ratio of strikers available to clubs looking for attackers starts to be whittled down.

Yet Forest and Leeds looking at Gray could be good news for the Robins, who are not thought to be interested in the 28-year-old.

The Robins do have targets they are working on themselves, and could well face reduced competition should Forest turn their attentions to Gray.

Any Championship club looking to secure a deal for Gray has their work cut out, however, with Watford boss Nigel Pearson ruling out a sale.

He said to the Standard: "I spoke with Andre and he is very much a part of what we are trying to do here.

“I don’t have any message for anybody us. It is more for our own players and that is I am pretty happy with what we already have.

“I think I have already said over the last week or so that if we add to the squad it will be to strengthen it."
