Nottingham Forest midfielder John Bostock asked about future after City Ground loan spell

Midfielder John Bostock says he has not yet given much thought to what might happen at the end of his loan with Nottingham Forest.

The 27-year-old is on a season-long deal at the City Ground from Toulouse, returning to England after six years plying his trade abroad.

He has featured three times for Sabri Lamouchi’s side so far, with just one of those appearances coming in the Championship - against Charlton Athletic.

Bostock himself admits he has had something of an “unorthodox” career, having started out at Crystal Palace, struggled to make his mark at Tottenham Hotspur and had spells in Belgium, Turkey and France.

And he says he has learnt not to look too far ahead as he simply aims to establish himself for the Reds.

Asked whether he might like to stay on at Forest after his year is up, he said: “We’ll see what happens. I’m young enough and old enough in my career to know that you can’t look so far ahead.

“We’ll see when it comes.

“I can’t look that far ahead.

“I’m still contracted to Toulouse at the moment.

“My aim is just to play as much as possible, to help Forest as much as I can and just to keep improving as a player.

“I feel like I’m at a stage of my career where I want to play as much as possible and just enjoy the game.

“Hopefully I can chip in with some goals and assists along the way, but the most important thing is we finish the season where we want to be.

“Hopefully I can be part of that.

“I’m a ball-playing midfielder. I like to dictate the tempo and get the team playing. I try to chip in with assists and goals,” he added.

“Ultimately, wherever the game goes, I feel like I can adapt. But my strengths are trying to create, and building the tempo and rhythm of games.”

Bostock was just 15 when he made his league debut for Palace and joined Spurs in 2008 with hopes high for his future.

But he failed to make a single appearance for the Premier League side and ended up going out on loan to Brentford, Hull City, Sheffield Wednesday and Swindon Town.

Although things perhaps didn’t quite pan out as hoped the last time he was on these shores, however, Bostock says he has nothing to prove back in English football.

“Not really. Of course I want to prove to everybody who watches me that I’m a good player, but I don’t go into games feeling like that and I don’t go into training feeling like that,” he said.

“I feel like from where I was to where I am now, I’ve come a long way.

“I don’t go into training or games or competition with that kind of pressure.

“I prepare and train like a professional every day to perform. That’s what I want to do - give my all for the fans and for my teammates; then we can prove together that we are a really, really good team.”
