Nottingham Forest midfielder fronts up after 'disaster' of a day at City Ground

Midfielder Ben Watson labelled Nottingham Forest’s 4-0 capitulation at home to Sheffield Wednesday “a disaster”.

The Reds were swept away in the first half at the City Ground, as Jordan Rhodes bagged a hat-trick and Steven Fletcher also weighed in to put the game out of sight before the break.

Watson missed the hosts’ best chance of the opening 45 minutes, when he fired over from close-range at 2-0 on the half hour mark.

But the 34-year-old admitted it is a day Forest must quickly put behind them as they look to get back on track at Huddersfield Town next weekend.

“The first half was a disaster,” said Watson.

“Credit to Sheffield Wednesday, they were better than us all over the pitch and took their chances.

“We had a great chance at 2-0, which would have probably changed the game if it had gone in.

“It was one of those days which we need to forget about and move on.

“It was a disaster, simple as that.

“We had words. We had words at half-time.

“We’ve got to look forward to the Huddersfield game now.

“I would say that’s the first time that’s really happened, and we got punished for it.

“They had two good strikers. If you give them a chance, they’ll score goals and that was the case.

“We’ll go over the game, we’ll see what we did wrong and we’ll put that right for next week.”

Sabri Lamouchi’s men dropped out of the play-off places, down to eighth in the table, come full-time.

The result means they have picked up one win in their last six matches, but they remain just one point adrift of the top six with a game in hand.

“We went into the game full of confidence, fifth in the league,” said Watson.

“We made mistakes and we got punished for it.

“They have two good strikers - you give them a chance in the box and they’ll score goals. That was the case.

“I’ll hold my hands up, I should have scored. But it wasn’t too be.

“If I score that, it’s 2-1 and a completely different game. A completely different game.

“But it’s done now. We can’t dwell on it. It’s done. We need to move on. We need to work hard this week in training and get ready for Saturday.”
