Transfer gossip
Nottingham Forest could reignite their interest in Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle when the transfer window opens.
Sabri Lamouchi’s Reds were keen to try and tempt the prolific Championship striker to the City Ground in the summer along with a clutch of other clubs, but were unable to complete the deal.
Now, according to the Athletic, Forest may well be tempted to move for the 29-year-old, who netted with such regularity at West Brom last season – and only made his first Toon appearance since May 2018 at the weekend, coming on at Chelsea after 83 minutes and not even having a touch of the ball, much to his frustration.
Learning lessons
Nottingham Forest head coach Sabri Lamouchi says his side’s defeat to Wigan Athletic is a “good example” to learn from.
It was only the second time this season the Reds have been beaten - and the first time on the road - as Jamal Lowe’s first half strike proved the difference at the DW Stadium.
They will look to get back on track in successive home games against Hull City and Reading, on Wednesday and Saturday respectively, with Lamouchi eager for his team to quickly move on.
“This is a good example for the future, because if you give an easy opportunity for the opponent, they will punish you,” the Frenchman said.

Goals needed
Nottingham Forest need to sign a striker in January. If that wasn’t obvious before, it should be after Sunday, says Reds legend Kenny Burns.
We could maybe even do with getting two.
Either way, we need to sign a goalscorer. Goals win you games and that’s what puts you in the promotion mix.
No luck
It was a day without luck for Nottingham Forest, according to Brice Samba.
The Reds’ troubled record at Wigan Athletic continued on Sunday afternoon thanks to a Jamal Lowe strike 10 minutes before the break.
That 1-0 reverse meant it was eight visits to the DW Stadium or the JJB as it used to be and in the process, bring Forest’s 10-game unbeaten run in the Championship to an end.
