Nottingham Forest may be concerned by this claim about next season

The Nottingham Forest squad could be set for a quick turnaround down the line, according to reports.

While the current Championship remains suspended for the Reds due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis, the backlog of fixtures and the way football ties itself to a traditional calendar could be set for a clash.

The  Daily Mail  is reporting that Premier League clubs have been advised that there could be as little as two weeks between the end of the 2019-20 season and the start of 2020-21 - which will have knock on effects for Championship sides like Forest - no matter if they are to be promoted or not.

The current start date of next season - August 8th - may possibly being pushed back, but the Daily Mail says clubs have been warned there could be just a two-week break between the end of this term and the start of the next.

It is thought players would not require the usual full pre-season as they would already be match fit but experts have warned of injury issues if the remaining matches this season are crammed together - which would only be worsened by a swift return to action in the new season.

That is among the many problems that the Premier League and other leagues across Europe are having to cope with as, while the start of next season can be delayed, the end in May 2021 doesn’t have that ability due to the rescheduled European Championship tournament.
