Nottingham Forest make key January addition as attacker departs ahead of cup tie

Boss Chris Hughton says he hopes new signing Filip Krovinovic can help Nottingham Forest get the goals they need this season.

The attack-minded midfielder has joined on loan from Benfica for the rest of the campaign, after his spell at West Bromwich Albion was cut short.

He helped the Baggies secure promotion to the Premier League in his first stint at The Hawthorns last term, and has made 12 appearances for them this time around.

He is unable to feature for the Reds when they travel to Swansea City for their fourth round FA Cup tie tomorrow.

Clough departs

Attacker Zach Clough has left Nottingham Forest and joined Wigan Athletic on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

It is three years since the 25-year-old last played for the Reds, when he came off the bench in an FA Cup defeat at Hull City back in January 2018.

He has not been part of the first-team set-up at the City Ground for some time, and, with his contract coming to an end in the summer, now leaves to link up with the Latics.

Clough joined the Reds in January 2017 from Bolton Wanderers, in a deal worth roughly £2.5m.

Not that such transfer talk bothers Ryan Yates.

When the likes of Harry Arter and Jack Colback came through the doors, the Nigel Doughty Academy product might well have been expected to drop down the pecking order.

In demand

Lincoln City boss Michael Appleton believes Nottingham Forest will have been “inundated” with loan offers for Brennan Johnson this month.

But he says the trust between the two clubs played a key role in the Reds’ decision to allow the 19-year-old to remain with the Imps for the rest of the season.

Johnson’s form so far this term has certainly caught the eye, with a tally of seven goals from 23 appearances amid some superb performances.

Forest manager Chris Hughton previously admitted the teenager  had been in his “thoughts”  for a potential recall, in a bid to bolster his own attacking resources.
