Nottingham Forest have made a formal request to former owner Fawaz Al Hasawi to now return a replica of the FA Cup which is currently in his possession.
The Reds have requested the return of the trophy they won in 1959, which had been commissioned during the Kuwaiti’s time at the helm.
The cup is understood to have cost about £23,000 to have made and was initially displayed in the trophy cabinet at the City Ground, along with other pieces of silverware won throughout the club’s illustrious history.
But it was later removed and put on display at one of Al Hasawi’s homes in London.
Al Hasawi’s view is understood to be that, as the trophy was paid for , it was his to possess.
However, he has said that he is prepared to return the cup to Nottingham.
“If this is an issue I will bring the cup tomorrow to the club,” he told the Guardian last week.

“And I will give it to them for free.
“I bought this with my own money. I am the one who put the money in the club. And I am the one who gave the authority to bring the cup.
“I will bring them the cup tomorrow. The cup is not an issue. It’s only £23,000. I am the one who ordered the cup and I am the one who took the cup.”
Forest’s request has been made in view of those comments, that he return the trophy at no cost to the club, notwithstanding his previous refusal to do so.
It puts the onus very much on Al Hasawi to follow through with his offer to bring the cup back to the City Ground trophy cabinet.
