Nottingham Forest make double signing as Reds chase former Manchester United prospect

Experienced striker Lyle Taylor has become Nottingham Forest’s third signing of the summer.

The 30-year-old has agreed a reported three-year the City Ground, after opting to leave Charlton Athletic where he scored 11 goals in a truncated season. He follows midfielder Jack Colback and Tyler Blackett in sealing a switch.

Taylor, who saw a £4m move to Brentford collapse in January, had been in talks with Forest bosses for a number of weeks, before putting pen to paper on a move which will see him remain in the Championship, having been linked with Scottish clubs Celtic and Rangers.

A Montserrat international, Taylor courted controversy earlier in the summer when he refused to sign a contract extension at the Valley, but explained concerns over a previous knee injury and the potential to miss out on a lucrative move were why he made that decision.

Blackett signs up

Defender Tyler Blackett has signed a two-year contract at Nottingham Forest and becomes the Reds’ second summer signing.

Blackett departed Championship rivals Reading earlier this summer and will link up with Sabri Lamouchi’s squad when they report back for pre-season next week.

The former Manchester United youngster appeared to be close to signing a pre-contract agreement with a Turkish club in January, said to be either Trabzonspor or Ankaragucu, though a move failed to materialise owing to concerns over his fitness.

Ex-United prospect linked

Former Manchester United reserve captain Nicholas Ioannou looks set to be the fourth summer arrival at Nottingham Forest, according to reports.

The Reds have returned with an improved offer to Cypriot club Apoel Nicosia, reports in Greece claim, making it likely a deal between the two clubs can be struck for the highly-rated defender.

Ioannou came through the ranks at Old Trafford, having been spotted at a football camp in Cyprus and played alongside the likes of Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay, going on to become the reserve team captain.

He left Old Trafford, however, when David Moyes was appointed Alex Ferguson's successor, owing to a hip problem which played a big part in him not securing a professional contract with the Red Devils.

McGuane out on loan

Marcus McGuane has the ability to be anything he wants to be, according to manager Karl Robinson.

The Nottingham Forest youngster, who joined the Reds last season from Barcelona, will spend the new season on loan at League One side Oxford United, and boss Robinson admits he can’t wait to see the 21-year-old in action.

“He can be just about anything he wants to be”, Robinson told the United website.

“He is still very young but what a journey to have been on even at his age.

“He can play a defensive role or as more of an attacking midfielder and we can’t wait to work with him.”
