Nottingham Forest 'make contact' for £25m-rated striker as transfer stance outlined

Nottingham Forest are said to be keen on Flamengo striker Pedro as they look to strengthen their attacking resources.

It has been a quiet start to the transfer window at the City Ground, with the Reds yet to make their first signing. But activity is expected to step up in the coming weeks as the countdown to the Premier League season begins.

Bolstering their options at the top end of the pitch is on Forest’s to-do list this summer. And they are said to have their eye on 26-year-old Pedro.

Premier League rivals Brentford are also monitoring the forward, according to GOAL. “Initial” contact has reportedly been made, although Flamengo have not received any formal offers.

The Brazilian outfit are seemingly not willing to even entertain bids below 30 million euros (£25m). A team from Saudi Arabia are said to have been given short shrift when they recently suggested the possibility of offering 20m euros (£17m).

Palmeiras and Botafogo have previously been sniffing around the Brazil international, but were rebuffed in their efforts to lure him away last year. However, Flamengo’s stance is said to have changed since then.

They have now “not closed the door” on selling, but are prepared to “play hard” amid interest in one of their key men. Additionally, Pedro would want to make sure any move involves the right “project”.

The former Fiorentina forward has been in fine form this year, scoring 25 goals and weighing in with four assists from 33 appearances. He is under contract until December 2027.

Forest felt the absence of Taiwo Awoniyi when he was injured for a spell last term, leaving them in need of reinforcements up front. Striker Chris Wood’s loan from Newcastle United has been converted into a permanent deal, but he is not expected to return from a thigh problem until at least mid-July. Meanwhile, Sam Surridge and Emmanuel Dennis have been linked with moves elsewhere.
