Nottingham Forest 'make checks' on goalkeeper ahead of January transfer window

Nottingham Forest have been linked with young Watford goalkeeper Myles Roberts ahead of the January transfer window.

The teenager is said to have attracted the attention of a number of Football League clubs, including the Reds - most likely with their youth set-up in mind.

Birmingham City and Forest have made “checks” on the shot-stopper in recent weeks, according to Football League World.

They report Portsmouth, Charlton Athletic, Leyton Orient and Sutton United are also keeping tabs on the 19-year-old.

But they add the Hornets’ “preference” is to hang on to the youngster, who is out of contract in the summer.

Roberts is currently on loan at National League South side Concord Rangers, where he picked up plenty of game time so far and shown form which is said to have caught the eye.

The January window will be new boss Steve Cooper’s first opportunity to make any adjustments to his squad.

The Reds have three senior goalkeepers on the books, having added free agent Ethan Horvath in the summer.

Brice Samba remains first-choice between the posts, and the club also have Jordan Smith in the ranks, although his deal expires at the end of the season.

Roberts joined Watford from Reading in January 2020 and has been part of their Under-23s team.

Forest currently have the Hornets’ Philip Zinckernagel on a season-long loan.
