Nottingham Forest 'make approach' for Celtic defender

Nottingham Forest are ready to swoop for Celtic defender Shane Duffy, according to a report in Scotland.

The Irish centre-back has endured a difficult spell north of the border after joining the Scottish champions for a seven-figure loan fee from Brighton at the start of the season.

Duffy suffered a dip in form prior to Christmas, losing his place in Neil Lennon’s team and Celtic are understood to be prepared to cut his season-long loan short.

According to Scottish Sun, Chris Hughton is keen to sign the player he managed during his time at Brighton.

Duffy recently returned early from Celtic’s controversial training camp in Dubai, citing personal reasons for his departure.

However, he made an unexpected return to the first XI for Friday’s 1-1 draw at Hibs following Covid-19 issues in the Celtic camp.

The Hoops are low on central defenders, with Christopher Jullien being ruled out for three months with a knee injury.

Despite that, Duffy’s Celtic future is in doubt, with Lennon picking Kristoffer Ajer and Nir Bitton as his centre-back pairing for the Old Firm derby at the start of the year.
