Nottingham Forest make £10m transfer demand

Nottingham Forest are said to have set a price for attacking midfielder Brennan Johnson amid reports of a move away from the City Ground.

An impressive loan spell last season with Lincoln City, whom he helped reach the League One play-off final, saw him score 11 goals and create 13 more in 43 League appearances.

Since his return to Nottingham Forest, the 20-year-old has made four appearances under Chris Hughton and provided one assist.

Now, according to Lyall Thomas of Sky Sports, the Reds are holding out for at least £10 million before considering any bids for the attacking midfielder.

He tweeted: "#Brentfordfc are in talks with #NottmForest to sign Brennan Johnson. However #NFFC want upwards of £10m and #Bees not prepared to pay it. A compromise needs to be reached."

The Reds remain hopeful of tying Johnson down to a long-term contract despite talks over a new deal reportedly reaching an impasse.

The Athletic has previously reported that the attacking midfielder hopes to stay at Forest but talks have slowed down with the length of the deal and not wages proving to be the stumbling block.

Speaking to Sky Sports after a 2-1 defeat to Coventry City earlier this season, Hughton made his stance on the young midfielder clear.

He said: "What is important is his development. He had a very good spell at Lincoln City last season and he has been good for us this pre-season.

"He is development his game. It is his first opportunity to play at this level. He will have the ups and downs of playing at this level, it is tough but at the moment we are delighted with his development."

Asked whether the Forest boss thinks he can keep a hold of Johnson, Hughton said: "It is never a question.

"This is a player who has had a season at Lincoln last year where he has done very well.

"Most importantly it is about what he can do for us as a club and what we can do to develop his game."
