Nottingham Forest 'looking to sign' international star as fresh transfer link emerges

Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for Canada international Richie Laryea as the Reds continue their impressive January recruitment drive.

According to the BBC's Natalie Jackson, the Reds are "looking to sign" the full-back who can also play in midfield.

Laryea is currently playing in the MLS for Toronto FC and while predominately a right-back he can also play on the opposite flank which is an area the Reds need to strengthen.

With Max Lowe out injured, Jack Colback has played as a wing-back and it is believed it is an area Forest are keen to address.

They have already been linked with another move for Derby defender Lee Buchanan after seeing several offers rejected for the Rams ace last summer.

Laryea, however, would provide good experience with the 26-year-old having won 22 caps for his country. Forest chief executive Dane Murphy knows the MLS well and is understood to be monitoring talent from across the Atlantic.

Laryea is highly regarded in the MLS for his attacking runs from full-back and speaking back in August he says he has come a long way.

“I don’t do it often, and maybe I should sit down and reflect to see how far I’ve come,” said Laryea.

“My parents remind me, some of my friends remind me. If you would’ve told me at the end of 2018 that I’d be where I am right now — I have a lot of belief in myself, and I think you have to as a player — but with the way things were going I probably would have looked at you sideways.

"It’s a nice experience and it’s one that I don’t take for granted.”

Forest are certainly wasting no time in a bid to get deals done having landed Steve Cook from Bournemouth and Keinan Davis on a loan deal from Aston Villa.

And earlier today it emerged that the Reds are chasing Millwall winger Jed Wallace after seeing two bids rejected for the 27-year-old.
